A Louisiana Medical Power of Attorney Form is designed to give the Attorney-in-Fact the authority to make decisions about the Principal’s medical care. This type of agreement is always Durable and Springing, meaning it will only go into effect once the Principal has been declared incapable of making their own decisions.

Under Louisiana state law, a Medical Power of Attorney (also known as an Advance Directive) will always include a Living Will. Therefore, when drafting a Medical Power of the Attorney, the Principal should be sure that they are comfortable with their chosen Attorney-in-Fact being in charge of their End of Life care, in addition to their medical treatments.
