The Oregon Medical Power of Attorney Form is designed to give the Agent the legal authority to make decisions about the Principal’s health care and medical treatments. This is the only kind of agreement that can give the Agent this power. Medical Power of Attorney is governed separately and thus is it not covered by a General Power of Attorney and cannot be included in a financial Limited Power of a Attorney.
The Principal should be aware that, under Oregon state law, all Medical Power of Attorney agreements will also contain a Living Will. Therefore, when drafting a Medical Power of Attorney form, the Principal should be sure to include their desired End of Life care, as the Agent will be responsible for that as well.
