A Washing Medical Power of Attorney Form is created when the Principal wants their Agent to be able to manage their medical treatments and health care decisions. This is the only kind of agreement that can give an Agent this power, as Medical Power of Attorney agreements is typically governed separately from all other Power of Attorney agreements.

Under Washington state law, a Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care is a completely separate document from a Living Will (which is legally known as a Health Care Directive in Washington). As there is often a significant amount of overlap between a Medical Power of Attorney and a Living Will, the Principal may wish to draft both at the same time, in order to make sure that their Agent will be responsible for their End of Life care and arrangements.
