The Iowa rental application is used by landlords to see if a potential tenant is able to not only pay rent on time but to see how they were with other landlords in the past. The applicant is required, usually after viewing a property they had interest, to fill in all their personal information including employment and where they have lived in the past five (5) years. This allows the landlord to speak with previous property owners and employers to see the character the tenant.
Depending on how thorough of a check landlord decides to make the process can be from thirty (30) minutes in simple credit check cases to 2-3 days. The landlord may also assess a non-refundable fee for the verification.
